Jacques Barraband was a French botanical and zoological illustrator. His lifelike rendering of the natural world is astounding.
Between 1801 - 1804 he produced a series of watercolors of flowers and birds by direct commission of Napolean Bonaparte.
With French naturalist Francois Levaillant, the men collaborated to produce the well known natural history work Histoire Naturelle Des Perroquets. The pair would go on to collaborate on other great works, Histoire Naturelle Des Oiseaux Des Paradis et des Rolliers, (Birds of Paradise), and Histoire Naturelle des Promerops, (Toucans).
