Wallase Ting was a self-taught artist poet who was born in China in 1929. He was known for his riotously colorful paintings  fuschias, oranges, yellows, so bright! - which frequently depicted nude women, cats, birds and flowers.
After leaving China in the mid-Forties, he paused for a while in Paris. In the late Fifties he moved to New York. He also lived some of the time in Amsterdam for much of his life.

He won the Guggenheim Fellowship Award (for Drawing) in 1970.
Ting has had over 60 solo exhibitions in major museums and art galleries around the world.

SUSAN'S NOTE: When I was 10, my mother surprised me with a trip to Paris. We'd been on a motoring holiday through France and when I woke up one day in the car from a nap, we were driving into Paris. Quelle surprise! We visited Galerie Maeght one afternoon on the Left
